Lend a Hand

The Millville Historical Society is run entirely by volunteers. Every hour given goes directly toward keeping three historic buildings standing and the Library open to anyone who walks in.

We need helpers for events, research, building maintenance, gardening, and tours. There is no minimum commitment and no experience required.

Where could we use your help?

Have a look at the four groups below and see which one sounds like you. Most people know within about ten seconds, and that is usually the right answer.

Are you happiest taking the lead?

Lead a project or a committee, spearhead a fundraising drive, or champion a new program.

Do you light up around people?

Greet visitors at Third Friday or during open hours, give tours of the David C. Wood Mansion, or represent the Society at community events.

Do you like rolling up your sleeves?

Set up and take down displays, bring refreshments or help host events, or tend the grounds and gardens.

Do you love getting the details right?

Research Millville families, buildings, or events, catalog and document artifacts, or help with the archives and written materials.

Something else you would like to do? Tell us. Several of the things the Society does now started because somebody turned up with a skill nobody had thought to ask for.

How to start

Talk to a Trustee at any event. Come by during open hours on a Wednesday or Sunday afternoon. Or telephone (856) 293-1078 and say what caught your eye.

You will not be put on a schedule or asked to commit to anything before you have seen what the work actually is.

History happened here. Keeping it takes people.
